The Green Yoga Community is a growing circle of Yoga practitioners,
teachers and businesses who believe that taking care of the planet
is essential to Yoga practice.
Please become a member and join our circle. Your membership
will help us to foster a Yoga community living in harmony with
the Earth.
If you are a Yoga teacher or an individual, we invite you to
become an Individual Member.
If you are a business, we invite you to
become a Business Member.
We have a strong team of volunteers, and have many ways for
you to get involved.
Our goal is to build community among those of us who are passionate
about Yoga and caring for the Earth. We believe that the Yoga
community has great potential to create positive change.
We celebrate our accomplishments, which have been made possible
through the love and support of our volunteers and members:
- We convened the first-ever Green Yoga conference in September
2005, where a passionate group of yogis and environmentalists
came together to build community and make connections between
Yoga and ecology.
- The 2nd International Green Yoga Conference in May 2007
will feature many renowned Yoga teachers and top scholars
on Yoga and ecology.
- We have successfully moved the Yoga mat market away from
harmful PVC mats toward less toxic alternatives. Because of
our awareness campaign about PVC mats, today all major mat
manufactures offer alternatives to the traditional sticky
Yoga mat.
- 22 yoga studios from across the country participated in
the Green Studios Program over the last year; they greened
their studios and made significant contributions to their
communities by being positive role models for both business
and individuals, as well as gaining significant visibility
nationally and locally. An additional 33 studios began the
program in October 2006.
- We have educated many thousands of people about green Yoga
through the first four issues of the Green Yoga newsletter,
in experiential workshops, and by sponsoring outreach booths
at major Yoga and environmental conferences.
- Recent press coverage of our work includes: Yoga Journal,
Yogi Times, Yogi Times Business, LA Yoga Magazine, Whole Life
Times, Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and
many other publications.
Support for the Green Yoga Association is strong, including
support from the California Yoga Teachers' Association, a highly
committed and dynamic Founding Board, and the contributions
of many volunteers and donors.
However, we need your support so that we can continue to do
our important work of raising awareness about honoring and taking
care of the planet as part of Yoga. Please
join us and become a member today! Or become
a Business Member.
